Eating Sound

Featuring Sam Bailey on piano with the Leon String Quartet and friends…

Eating Sound is a unique dining experience where food is used to deepen the understanding of sound. A live chamber orchestra will be present to help diners make the connection between timbre, texture and taste — ultimately refreshing the perception of flavour and sound.

Throughout the meal, you’ll be guided by your host for the evening, Andrew, who will talk you through how you can score how well each delectable dish matches the music that was written for it. The courses and drinks pairings are available to download. At the end of the meal, your score cards are collected and the dish that was most reflected and enhanced by its music will be tallied up and announced!

This Spring Banquet will, as with the Autumn one previously, include the dining room being bedecked to reflect the season. Our wait staff will be in masks made by The Masketeers, whose animal creations (featured at the Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Wilderness and Summer Sunset) are bespoke, expert and truly glorious.

Join us and experience a joyous ambiance; relax, have fun and engage all your senses with wonderful food, wine and music.

£75 pp — includes 6 incredible courses with matching wines

Free Range: Laboratory Film

The final scene of Antonioni’s L’Eclisse depicts a rendezvous where neither character shows up. The camera lingers on empty spaces charged with absence.

Andy Birtwistle’s Laboratory Film is ostensibly about a machine designed to amplify DNA but, like L’Eclisse, the still, empty shots combine detached observation (and a touch of absurdism) with a profound sense of loneliness.

Laboratory Film features a live soundtrack composed and performed by Sam Bailey with the Leon String Quartet.
